Permits & Licenses

Hosting an Event

  • Large events with more than 1,000 attendees: applications have closed and are reviewed during December through February.
  • Other events with fewer than 1,000 attendees: applications are due by March 27, 2026.

The City may require one or more of the following permits depending on your event:

  • Community Event Permit
    • For watch parties, festivals, concerts, parades, and similar public events
  • Promotional Event Permit
    • For tents, inflatables, temporary structures, and similar event features
  • Block Party Permit:
    • For street closures or events that affect traffic flow
  • Temporary Event Signage Permit
  • Transient Merchant Permit

Micro grant for Small Businesses

The Overland Park Chamber, through its Opportunity Now initiative and in partnership with the EDC, offers a new micro grant program in which small business owners can apply for grants ranging between $500 and $3,000 to support business development and expansion.
The grant application window is open through March 15, 2026.

Johnson County United Link Circulator Service

Getting around Overland Park is easier with Johnson County United Link, a circulator fair-service designed to connect riders to key destinations across the community.

Service highlights:

  • Two routes operating in Overland Park
  • Seven stops located throughout the city
  • Oak Park Mall serving as a central connection point across all routes

Visitors can get around Overland Park with ease through a network of 60 rentable e-bikes available at key destinations across the city.

Public Viewing License

If you expect a large crowd or sponsors submit your event by March 1st, 2026

Apply if your event is:

  • Special non-commercial: 1,000+ expected attendees (parks, churches, universities, community venues)

  • Commercial: any event with sponsors, paid entry, or other commercial benefit

Who does not need a license

    • Sports bars, restaurants, and retail where sports are regularly televised as normal business

To qualify:

  • Submit by April 1

  • Event dates: June 1 to July 19

  • Open to the public (ticketed ok)

  • Permitted + insured

  • FIFA IP compliant

Parade of Hearts Tourism Push

Overland Park is part of the Parade of Hearts, a regional partnership bringing cities together around a shared visitor experience.

What it offers:

  • A collaborative, multi-city tourism effort
