Highways
Overland Park is connected to the Kansas City metropolitan area and the broader region by four major highways: I-35, I-435, I-635 and U.S. 69. This extensive highway network supports convenient access for residents, workers and businesses throughout the city.
In 2026, Kansas opened its first express lanes as part of the 69Express project in Overland Park. The $572 million transportation investment expanded a six-mile section of U.S. 69 between 103rd and 151st streets, adding one express lane in each direction while maintaining two free general-purpose lanes in each direction. The project provides drivers with an additional travel option along one of Johnson County’s busiest transportation corridors and strengthens access to major employment, commercial and residential areas in Overland Park.
Air
Four airports provide commercial and general aviation access for Overland Park:
Kansas City International Airport (MCI), approximately 25 miles north of the city, provides commercial air service with more than 50 nonstop routes. Its modern single terminal opened in February 2023 and features 40 gates, 6,200 garage parking spaces, and 48 shops and restaurants.
Johnson County Executive Airport (OJC), located near Overland Park at 151st Street and Pflumm Road, serves corporate, business and general aviation users.
New Century AirCenter (IXD), located at 175th Street and I-35, is a multimodal aviation center where air, rail and interstate highway infrastructure converge. The airport accommodates general aviation, corporate and other aviation operations and features one of the region’s longest runways.
Kansas City Downtown Airport - Wheeler Field (MKC), located near downtown Kansas City, serves corporate, charter and recreational aviation.
Public Transportation
Overland Park is served by RideKC, the Kansas City region’s integrated public transportation network. Johnson County Transit provides local, commuter and on-demand services that connect Overland Park with destinations throughout Johnson County and the broader metropolitan area.
Fixed-route service includes connections along major Overland Park corridors and to regional destinations in Kansas and Missouri. The seasonal 510 K-10 Connector links Johnson County Community College and the University of Kansas Edwards Campus with the University of Kansas campus in Lawrence, with service schedules adjusted around academic breaks.
RideKC also provides accessible transportation options for riders with disabilities, and Johnson County offers Micro Transit service within a designated service area that includes portions of Overland Park. Regional bus fares resumed in June 2026, with fare capping available for riders using the same payment method across multiple trips.
