Intern Programs
Summer in OP Intern Program
Summer in OP is the Chamber's collaborative intern engagement program. Each June and July, the Chamber brings together interns from businesses and organizations across Overland Park and the Kansas City metro for a series of networking, social, and professional development events.
The program launched in 2024 to help interns build networks beyond their own company to show them what it looks like to build a career and a life in Overland Park.
Since 2024, Summer in OP has served more than 280 interns representing 17 companies across Overland Park and the Kansas City region.
How It Works
Participating companies hire their own interns, then enroll them in Summer in OP.
Enrolled interns receive:
- Social events focused on networking and experiencing Overland Park's quality of life
- Professional development workshops designed to build the skills of emerging young professionals
- A weekly lifestyle newsletter featuring upcoming events, local businesses and things to do in Overland Park
Summer in OP is an enrichment program for interns who are already working with a company. The Chamber does not place interns or match students with employers.
Who It's For
Summer in OP works for companies of every size. Small businesses with one or two interns gain a ready-made peer group and a full summer of programming. Larger companies with established intern programs can use Summer in OP to complement their own events and connect their interns with peers across the region.
Benefits for Your Company
- Connections to young professionals. Interns gain direct access to established young professionals and emerging leaders in the Chamber's Young Professionals program, who help tell the Overland Park story.
- Turnkey programming. Pre-planned events foster a positive connection between your interns, your company and our region, with no added planning for your team.
- All-inclusive pricing. One flat fee covers catering and any tickets needed for each event.
- Ongoing engagement. A weekly lifestyle newsletter keeps good news and things to do in your interns' inboxes all summer
